César Steps Up
SALT promotes César Chin to Creative Director and Partner
April 20th, 2005 – SALT® Branding was pleased to announce the promotion of César Jaqulin Chin, to the position of Creative Director and Partner in the firm. César will be responsible for continuing to deliver the creative excellence the company has come to expect from him, and in turn instill that in others.
“Building SALT’s growing creative team will be key to SALT’s future,” said Paul Parkin, SALT’s Creative Director and Principal. “César has always delivered the goods personally, and now he will help others achieve the same incredible standards.”
César has worked with the principals from SALT for over seven years in a number of different roles. Their collaboration has been a key element in their ambition to create a truly integrated strategic and creative branding company that can make a difference to a client’s business – through innovative thinking, and impactful design and communications. César’s multi-talented ability to creatively problem solve in many mediums is what makes him so valuable to SALT’s business.
César Chin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Graphic Design program at Arizona State University, moving to San Francisco to start his career in branding and visual communications at Landor Associates. There, he worked on a range of projects spanning from packaging for Philips and Xerox, to creating visual identities for Sony and Varig Brazilian Airlines. In 1997, César helped start Interbrand San Francisco – where he met the principals of SALT. Over the next few years, they worked together creating identity programs for a wide range of clients in multiple industries – from the Fortune 50, to dot-com start-ups – including 3Com, Hewlett-Packard, Sempra Energy, Cricket Communications, and Fatbrain.
Having gained rich experience from two of the world’s largest branding firms, César decided to follow his entrepreneurial spirit. He ventured out on his own, founding Protopod Design – a boutique design firm specializing in interactive and print design. Upon the launch of SALT, he teamed up with his old colleagues and became part of the new company.
Since then he has become the primary creative lead on many of SALT’s most important projects – including Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Mobile 365, and Disney. His breadth of experience, from environmental design to interactive branding, has been instrumental in helping SALT build robust and comprehensive branded experiences.
“César is an incredibly creative guy who understands that the work he does makes a difference to our business. Everything he does always looks great, but more importantly, it helps us build powerful brands,” said Chris MacAskill, CEO of SmugMug (and formerly Fatbrain).
SALT is full service agency and much of their work touches many aspects of a clients business: From strategy and brand building, to web design and advertising. César’s experience will prove invaluable as he becomes part of the management team, developing SALT as a successful branding agency.
